Yes, the app is completely free to download and use. The core SOS features, trusted circle, live GPS and evidence vault are all included at no cost. A Plus plan ($4.99/month) unlocks more trusted contacts, extended vault storage and recurring check-in mode. Physical products (the spray and Safety Tag) are available separately.
Yes. Safety Ink spray is not classified as an offensive weapon under UK law. It contains no irritants, no capsaicin and no chemical agents, only a UV-reactive fluorescent compound in an isopropyl alcohol carrier. It is legal to carry and use in self-defence in England, Wales and Scotland.
Evidence is cached locally on your device with the same SHA-256 hash chain intact. The moment your phone regains connectivity, on any network or Wi-Fi, everything uploads automatically in the correct order. Nothing is ever lost. Your trusted circle will receive a delayed alert as soon as the upload completes.
No. Evidence uploads to a cloud vault that requires your account credentials to access. Even if an attacker takes your phone after the SOS has fired, the evidence is already off the device. The vault can only be accessed by you and the Emergency contacts you have designated.
No, location sharing only activates when SOS is triggered. Observers see your live map during an active incident only. Nothing is shared during normal use unless you explicitly choose to enable a voluntary "safe journey" mode that shares your route temporarily.
Typically 3–14 days on skin under normal conditions. Significantly longer on fabric, surviving multiple washes in many cases. The attacker has no physical reason to suspect marking has occurred, so they are unlikely to attempt removal. The evidence window begins immediately and can be documented at any police custody suite or SARC.
Safety Ink is currently available on Android (v9.0+). iOS support is in development. The Safety Tag pairs with any Android device running the Safety Ink app v2.0 or later. Galaxy Watch companion requires Wear OS and the Safety Ink watch app.
